Excel Academy North

Camelot’s Excel project began as a ninth grade restoration program in September 2004. Since then, the program has evolved into a comprehensive accelerated high school that offers the full complement of courses needed for students to acquire the 23.5 credits the School District of Philadelphia requires for graduation. Excel is the first program of its kind authorized by the District to address the growing problem of overage, under credentialed, at risk high school students – termed “near dropout” students. Students that enroll at Excel must be at least sixteen years of age and have two or fewer accumulated credits toward graduation.

Once enrolled, students receive an individualized and accelerated curriculum designed to keep students engaged in school and providing them with a curriculum framework allowing them to graduate in 2.5 years or less. Because of its reputation in the community and history of success, Excel has a waiting list for students seeking admission that exceeds 350.

Excel’s Program Goals

1. To increase student academic achievement
2. To raise student attendance
3. To create and maintain a safe and orderly learning environment
4. To prepare students to meet state and District graduation requirements
5. To provide students with the necessary skills and support to enroll in a post secondary institution, certification program, or trade school and obtain gainful, self-sufficient employment

An integral part of our Excel program is assisting high school students nearing graduation with information and opportunities for continued success after graduation. Our vision for each student that graduates is that they become functional, self-sufficient contributors to society. We support our students by increasing their vision of what they should and can become.
